Hulu’s The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox: What Really Happened in the True Story Behind the Series

Hulu’s new limited series The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox dramatizes one of the most infamous true-crime cases of the 21st century. The eight-episode show, with the first two episodes released on August 20, revisits the wrongful imprisonment of Amanda Knox, the American student accused of murdering her British roommate Meredith Kercher in Italy.

Amanda herself serves as an executive producer, ensuring the story reflects her perspective. Grace Van Patten plays Knox on screen.

  • Meredith Kercher, a British exchange student, shared an apartment in Perugia with Amanda Knox and two Italian roommates.

  • On November 2, 2007, Meredith was found dead in her locked bedroom, covered by a blanket. Knox discovered blood in the shared bathroom and a broken window before the police arrived.

Italian investigators quickly focused on Amanda.

  • Despite her mother’s urging to return to the U.S., Amanda stayed to cooperate.

  • Language barriers and an exhausting night of questioning led her to falsely implicate herself and her boss Patrick Lumumba.

  • On November 6, Amanda, her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, and Patrick were arrested.
