A24 Closing in on Texas Chainsaw Massacre Rights for New Film and TV Projects

A24 is making a major push to secure the film and TV rights to the legendary horror franchise Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the series that first introduced audiences to the terrifying Leatherface in 1974. While the deal is not finalized, reports indicate that A24 is the leading contender, setting the stage for both a new film and a potential TV series.
According to early details, the proposed TV series would involve JT Mollner, Roy Lee, and Glen Powell, though Powell is not expected to star. In addition, a new feature film could also be produced by A24, which may eventually land on Netflix — the same platform that released the most recent installment in 2022. Unlike that film, however, the new project is expected to tell a fresh story using the iconic characters first created by Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel.
What This Means for the Franchise
A24 has become synonymous with critically acclaimed horror, producing and distributing hits like Hereditary, Midsommar, The Witch, and more recently Talk to Me. Partnering with Roy Lee, the producer behind Barbarian, Weapons, and The Long Walk, alongside Mollner (Strange Darling) and Powell, offers a powerhouse team that could revitalize Texas Chainsaw Massacre for a new generation.
Reports also reveal that A24 outbid stiff competition from some of Hollywood’s top creative voices, including Bryan Bertino (The Strangers), Oz Perkins (Longlegs), Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone), and Jordan Peele (Get Out, Nope).
There’s no confirmed release timeline yet, but if A24 officially closes the deal, development could move quickly.
