Canon Announces Major Firmware Updates for EOS C80, C400, and PTZ Cameras

Canon is rolling out a major firmware update for its popular PTZ and Cinema EOS camera lines—including the much-anticipated updates for the EOS C80 and EOS C400. These upgrades are set to bring new features that enhance creative control, improve live streaming, and make virtual productions more efficient.

Whether you’re filming a cinematic production or a live event, these firmware updates offer tools designed to elevate performance, reliability, and ease of use.


Canon PTZ Camera Updates: CR-N700, CR-N500, CR-N300, CR-N100, CR-X300

The update brings powerful enhancements to Canon’s PTZ camera line, including:

  • Advanced multi-person auto-tracking (for paid add-on)

  • Improved SRT/RTMP live streaming, now with:

    • Auto-reconnect during signal loss

    • Auto-start streaming on power-up

  • Multi-Camera Control app support

  • New Area Zoom feature: Just draw a box on the screen to focus

  • Enhanced fast-motion tracking in both free and paid auto-tracking

  • RC-IP1000 controller firmware upgrade with:

    • EOS C80 compatibility

    • Better preset management and display

    • Standard serial protocol support

Canon EOS C80 and EOS C400 Cinema Camera Updates

The EOS C400 and C80 firmware update introduces cinema-level monitoring, lens correction, and metadata enhancements, including:

Enhanced Display (Display Level 2):

  • Sensor mode and resolution

  • Codec per card slot

  • Gamma & color space

  • Stabilization status

  • Electronic level tilt/roll info

Cinema RAW Light Playback Enhancements:

  • Real-time distortion & chromatic aberration correction

  • Immediate on-set playback without needing a computer

CV Protocol Output for Virtual Production:

  • Output lens metadata to multiple devices

  • CV Metadata Extraction plugin now supported

  • Optimized for virtual set environments

Hybrid Tracking AF + Manual Focus (EOS C400 only):

  • Track subjects using AF tracking, then switch to manual focus

  • Once manual control ends, AF resumes automatically

These updates make the C400 and C80 even more versatile for scripted films, documentaries, and virtual production setups—joining the ranks of other high-end foreign series production tools.


Release Date and Pricing

The firmware updates will be free and available for download by end of July 2025 for all supported Canon PTZ and Cinema EOS camera users.
