Wscripted+: An AI-Powered Platform Reshaping Screenplay Discovery

As the screenwriting industry faces major shifts — with Coverfly’s shutdown and traditional contests like Nicholl changing their submission processes — writers and producers are exploring new platforms to host and discover projects. One of the rising names in this space is Wscripted+, an AI-driven service that aims to speed up script evaluation while promoting diverse voices in film, TV, and publishing.
Founded by Ellie Jamen, Wscripted+ builds on the original Wscripted platform, which focused on connecting female and non-binary writers to industry professionals. Backed by Techstars Atlanta and included in Comcast NBCUniversal’s LIFT Labs generative AI accelerator, the platform has even been tested by Universal Pictures during its early rollout.
Unlike The Black List, which relies on paid evaluations, or Coverfly’s contest-based model, Wscripted+ openly integrates AI to help producers, agents, and executives filter through scripts and books. The platform’s goal is to address a long-standing industry issue: professionals are inundated with submissions and often don’t have time to discover new voices, especially from underrepresented groups.
At launch, 2,000 female and non-binary writers were invited to join, and Wscripted+ gained further visibility with its Cannes Screenplay List, curated by industry figures like Vanessa Kirby.

Industry Reactions:
The use of AI in script evaluation has sparked debate. Supporters see potential in reducing bias and increasing access for marginalized writers, while critics argue AI lacks the ability to emotionally connect with characters and storytelling — a vital part of creative judgment. Wscripted+ addresses this by emphasizing that its system is “user-controlled,” designed to assist professionals without replacing human decision-making.
Takeaway:
With Coverfly gone and the industry increasingly fragmented, writers are experimenting with multiple platforms to gain exposure. Wscripted+ stands out for its focus on inclusivity and workflow efficiency, though skepticism about AI’s role in creative industries remains strong. For emerging writers, especially women and non-binary creators, it may become a valuable complement — though likely not a full replacement — to traditional screenplay hosting services like The Black List and Stage 32.
