Broadway Breaks Records: 2024-2025 Season Becomes Highest-Grossing in History

Broadway’s 2024-2025 season has officially become the highest-grossing season in the industry’s history, generating a record-breaking $1.89 billion in total grosses. This achievement surpasses the previous record of $1.82 billion set in the 2018-2019 season, according to the latest statistics released by The Broadway League.

Even with the extended 53-week calendar due to the leap year, the first 52 weeks of the 2024-2025 season still brought in an impressive $1.85 billion, firmly placing it as the new all-time high.

Attendance Trends and Ticket Prices

While total grosses soared, attendance slightly trailed the 2018-2019 record. The 2024-2025 season welcomed 14,658,531 theatergoers, compared to 14,768,254 in the 2018-2019 season. However, the average ticket price rose to $129.12, up from $123.87, explaining the revenue growth despite the dip in attendance.

Industry Resilience Post-Pandemic

Jason Laks, President of The Broadway League, expressed enthusiasm for the milestone:

“There is so much to celebrate about the 2024-2025 season… It has taken the hard work and imagination of thousands to bring the magic of Broadway back.”

Still, Laks emphasized the need for forward-looking strategies:

“Rising production costs and shorter windows for new shows to succeed present ongoing challenges. We can’t rely on old metrics of success.”

Record-Breaking Performances and Top Shows

One of the most notable highlights came from “Good Night, And Good Luck” starring George Clooney, which shattered records with an eight-performance week grossing $4,238,813, surpassing “Hamilton’s” 2018 record. The average ticket price for the show hit $337.59, with premium seats priced at $825.

Several productions also reported strong weekly growth, with 35 out of 40 shows increasing their grosses.
