International Box Office Update: Fantastic Four: First Steps Crosses $500M, The Roses Debuts Strong

It was a relatively quiet weekend at the international box office, but several films delivered major milestones and solid holds as summer winds down.
Leading the charge, Marvel/Disney’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps crossed the $500M global mark, now sitting at $505.1M worldwide in its sixth weekend. The film added $4.4M overseas for an international cume of $240.5M. Key territories held strong, with Brazil up by 35%, and minimal drops in the UK (-1%), France (-24%), and Mexico (-33%). The film remains the highest-grossing superhero release of 2025 in Latin America, Italy, and Thailand. Top markets include the UK ($31M), Mexico ($28.2M), and France ($16.2M).
Meanwhile, Searchlight’s The Roses opened with $9.2M in 40 overseas markets, for a $17.2M global launch. The Olivia Colman/Benedict Cumberbatch comedy remake claimed the No. 1 spot in the UK, Belgium, and the Netherlands, where it posted Searchlight’s biggest opening weekend ever (excluding previews). Major starts include the UK ($3M), Germany ($800K), and France ($800K). Key markets still to release include Australia, Korea, and Japan.
Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s The Bad Guys 2 continues to outperform expectations, adding $12.5M from 75 markets for a $103.5M international cume and $176.5M global total. The sequel is running ahead of the original in most territories (excluding China).
New Line/Warner Bros.’ Weapons crossed the $100M international mark, with $9.4M this weekend from 74 markets, reaching $234.6M globally. The film saw minimal drops, with strong holds in Brazil (-1%), France (-13%), and Spain (-23%).
Anime blockbuster Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle continued its stellar Southeast Asia run, earning $4.3M in its third weekend for a regional cume of $42M. Globally, the film has now surpassed $250M, outperforming animated hits like Toy Story 4 and The Super Mario Bros. Movie in comparable markets.
