Kevin Spacey’s Journey Towards a Comeback

Two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey has expressed his forgiveness for “those who rushed to judgment” prior to the outcomes of his legal cases, although he stated he will not collaborate with them in the future.

Excitement for Future Projects

During an on-stage interview at the Italian Global Series Festival (IGSF) in Rimini, Spacey conveyed his enthusiasm about returning to work in a significant capacity.

When asked by IGSF Artistic Director Marco Spagnoli how his legal troubles have impacted him, Spacey remarked, “These experiences have allowed me to stop, assess, reassess and listen, and be very grateful for the work I’m able to do both on screen and off screen.”

He expressed gratitude towards those in the industry who supported him, stating, “I will do everything I can to maintain their trust for the rest of my life.”

Forgiveness and Future Collaborations

Without naming anyone, he mentioned, “For those who rushed to judgment and decided I was guilty, they have my forgiveness, but I am not seeking them out to collaborate.”

Earlier this week, Spacey received a Maximo Excellence Award, among several accolades from Italian film and TV organizations in recent years. In his acceptance speech, he acknowledged Federico Fellini and his Se7en co-stars Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman, as well as Franco Nero, who cast him in 2021 when many others would not.

Continuing to Create

At the festival, Spacey was welcomed by an enthusiastic audience of students and families, along with journalists who were not permitted to ask questions. He stated, “I’ve been doing a lot of work on my own, and I continue to make movies.” He emphasized his excitement about returning to significant work, stating he has many stories to tell.

In Cannes last month, the The Usual Suspects star addressed critics of an award he received, saying, “Who would have ever thought that honoring someone who has been exonerated in every courtroom he’s ever walked into would be thought of as a brave idea?” He also discussed issues of “blacklisting” and cancel culture during his speech.

Legal Troubles and Ongoing Work

Since 2017, Spacey has faced numerous legal challenges that have hindered his Hollywood career. He was acquitted of sexual assault charges in the UK two years ago and found not liable in a U.S. civil case initiated by actor Anthony Rapp. Multiple allegations of inappropriate behavior have surfaced from his time on House Of Cards and in UK theater.

Currently, he is facing a new lawsuit in the UK from actor Ruari Cannon, who contributed to a 2024 documentary about Spacey. Spacey has denied any wrongdoing regarding Cannon’s claims, describing them as “anonymized and non-specific.”

Despite these challenges, Spacey continues to act in independent films. His role in Nero’s The Man Who Drew God has led to other projects, including the conspiracy thriller The Awakening, which premiered in Cannes.
