Lindsay Lohan Embraces Dark Drama in Hulu’s Count My Lies – Without a Love Story

Lindsay Lohan on Count My Lies: “No Romance, Just Drama”

Lindsay Lohan is stepping into uncharted territory with her role in Count My Lies, a dark, suspenseful Hulu drama based on Sophie Stava’s novel. The project marks her first scripted television series, and, surprisingly, the first role where she has no romantic interest—a refreshing departure for the former teen star.

In her summer 2025 Elle cover story, Lohan spoke to Saturday Night Live’s Chloe Fineman about the series. “I love the book. But when I was reading it, I had to put it down for a day because I was like, ‘I’m stressed now,’” she said. “But I liked that. It’s going to be nice to do something different.”

A New Type of Role: No Kisses, No Romance

Lohan revealed the show’s biggest change for her: “This is the first time where I don’t have to have a romantic interest, where I don’t have to kiss someone at the end of the movie. Which is so refreshing—to not have to be that girl for once.”

This career shift signals a deeper, more serious chapter in Lohan’s evolution as an actress.

Plot and Role in Count My Lies

The series, produced by 20th Television and showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger (This Is Us), follows Sloane Caraway, a compulsive liar who cons her way into a nanny job for a seemingly perfect couple, Violet and Jay Lockhart.

“It seems she’s finally landed her dream job,” the show’s logline reads. “But little does Sloane know, she’s just entered a household brimming with secrets that are about to explode — with potentially catastrophic consequences for all.”

Lohan is set to play Violet Lockhart, a character surrounded by mystery and emotional complexity. The series is currently in development at Hulu, with Lohan also serving as executive producer alongside author Sophie Stava and The Walk-Up Company’s Scott Morgan.

Lohan’s Career Shift: From Netflix Rom-Coms to Dark TV Drama

After a quiet period in Hollywood, Netflix played a pivotal role in Lohan’s comeback. She starred in festive hits like:

  • Falling for Christmas (2022)

  • Irish Wish (2024)

  • The Little Secret (2024)

Now, she’s gearing up to reprise her iconic role as Anna in Freakier Friday, set for release on August 8, 2025, with Disney.

“I was manifesting it. During COVID, I kept writing in my journal that I wanted to work with Netflix. And then it happened. I said I wanted to do three films with them, and then something with Disney. So I manifested that, and I’m manifesting this movie now.”

Dream Projects and Collaborations Ahead

Lohan has her eye on working with Quentin Tarantino, Julianne Moore, Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino. She mentioned she’d love to be in something “Sopranos-y” given her Italian heritage, and joked that while she’s never played Julianne Moore’s daughter, “maybe now I’d be her younger sister.”

When asked about future roles, Lohan shared, “I’d love to do a smart comedy—a dark one like Mean Girls. Not a rom-com, but something sharp and meaty.”

Why Count My Lies Matters

This project marks a major turning point in Lindsay Lohan’s career. It’s her move away from light-hearted romantic roles into deeper, more dramatic material—without the distraction of a love story. And it could signal the start of a long-term presence in prestige television.
