Paramount’s Daniel Monaghan Joins Foxtel as Exec Director Amid Global TV Industry Shifts

Daniel Monaghan, long-time Senior Vice-President of Content & Programming at Paramount Australia and New Zealand (ANZ), is making a major career move to Foxtel. He will step into the role of Executive Director – Entertainment Content, overseeing both Foxtel and its streaming platform Binge, according to CEO Hilary Perchard.

Monaghan has spent two decades at Network 10, where he played a pivotal role in shaping hit shows including The Masked Singer, Australian Survivor, Hunted, MasterChef, Taskmaster, and I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!. He also commissioned series for Paramount+ such as Fake, The Inspired Unemployed: Impractical Jokers, and Last King of the Cross. At Foxtel, he will succeed Wendy Moore, who exited in June to pursue a new venture. The move comes amid heightened industry competition, following Netflix’s recent hire of Stan content boss Amanda Duthie.

In other TV news, Joanne Whalley (known for Edge of Darkness and Willow) and Charlene Tilton (famous for Dallas) have joined the cast of indie-financed pilot Write to Kill. Written by David P. Perlmutter and Michael Gorman, the project stars Charlotte Kirk as an aspiring author struggling with writer’s block and debt, who is offered life-changing money to commit a crime.

Meanwhile, RTL has begun production on Einsatz Seeler – Ein Lübeck-Krimi, a crime thriller about Eric Seeler (Sebastian Ströbel), a former police officer turned street worker, and Hannah Vogt (Friederike Linke), whose worlds collide when a youth from Seeler’s project is suspected of murder. Directed by Alexander Dierbach and written by Mike Bäuml, the drama will air on RTL next spring as part of Deadly Service Day.

On the business side, Fifth Season continues to expand internationally with the hire of David Wilcox as SVP Sales EMEA, reporting to Jennifer Ebell, who became international TV distribution head earlier this year. Wilcox, formerly at ITV Studios, will spearhead EMEA sales, while Alistair Jennings and Travis Webb expand their remits to APAC and global digital strategy, respectively.

This wave of executive moves, productions, and distribution reshuffles underscores the fast-paced changes reshaping the global TV industry—from Australia to Europe—as networks and streamers invest heavily in content, sales, and international growth.
