Secuoya Studios Partners with Chris Moukarbel to Expand Global Content Strategy

Secuoya Studios has announced a major collaboration with U.S. filmmaker Chris Moukarbel, best known for documentaries like Gaga: Five Foot Two, Banksy Does New York, and Tribeca award-winner Cypher. The deal, structured as a first-look agreement, will focus on the co-development of original projects for international broadcasters and streaming platforms.
Moukarbel praised the partnership, calling Secuoya a “visionary” creative force: “They are singular in their commitment to making things that shift the conversation.” His involvement was facilitated by James Costos, President of Secuoya Studios, who emphasized that Moukarbel represents a unique voice strengthening the bridge between Hollywood and Spain.
Secuoya Studios’ International Expansion
Under the leadership of CEO Brendan Fitzgerald, Secuoya Studios is rapidly scaling its content strategy beyond Spain. The company has already signed pod and first-look deals with several international partners, including:
-
Sergio Pizzolante’s Ctmobs (Miami)
-
Guy Avshalom’s BlackBox Multimedia (UK)
-
Sydney Gallonde (France)
-
Mónica Aguirre’s Black Sheep (Latin America)

-
Ólafur Darri Ólafsson and Hörður Rúnarsson’s Act4 (Nordics)
These alliances position Secuoya Studios to produce a wide slate of movies, TV dramas, and documentaries, with much of the production taking place in Spain’s state-of-the-art facilities while targeting global audiences.
Spain’s Role as the “Hollywood of Europe”
The Spanish government has pledged billions of euros to transform Spain into a leading hub for film and television production. Secuoya Studios, with its Madrid Content Studios facility, is at the forefront of this ambition. Fitzgerald’s goal is that 30% of revenue will come from non-Spanish projects within three years.
While the company currently relies on distributors like Beta Film and Mediawan, it is preparing to expand its pre-sales operations to manage international reach more directly. Fitzgerald envisions 15 pod deals delivering at least one project each year, creating a steady pipeline of global productions.
A Global Future for Secuoya Studios
By bringing in Chris Moukarbel and other international partners, Secuoya Studios is firmly positioning itself as a global content powerhouse. The strategy reflects a broader mission: to grow beyond Spain, to create culturally diverse stories, and to strengthen Spain’s reputation as the “Hollywood of Europe.”
