Taylor Swift Freed from Deposition in Justin Baldoni–Blake Lively Legal Battle

To paraphrase Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space,” the superstar narrowly avoided a legal nightmare this week. Just more than 24 hours after Justin Baldoni once again attempted to drag Taylor Swift into his ongoing legal clash with Blake Lively, Judge Lewis Liman firmly ruled against any deposition of the global pop icon.

At the same time, the judge delivered a legal victory to Blake Lively, granting her a 10-day extension for depositions involving Baldoni and his Wayfarer Studios co-founders Steve Sarowitz and Jamey Heath as the discovery process nears its final stages.

“The Wayfarer Parties” sought an extension to the end of October, citing Swift’s packed professional schedule ahead of her October 3 release of The Life of a Showgirl album. They argued she could instead sit for questioning between October 20 and 25. However, Judge Liman noted that the team failed to show good cause, pointing out that they had over six months of discovery and even withdrew an earlier subpoena in May 2025.

The judge’s written order was blunt: logistical issues tied to Swift’s busy calendar are not a sufficient reason to extend discovery. Swift’s legal team, led by Douglas Baldridge, reiterated that the singer never agreed to a deposition, though they indicated her schedule could have accommodated late October if it were unavoidable.

This ruling comes as part of Blake Lively’s lawsuit against Baldoni and Wayfarer over sexual harassment and retaliation claims linked to the filming of It Ends With Us. With the trial date set for March 9, 2026, the involvement of Swift—who contributed music to the film’s soundtrack—remains uncertain, though her name has already sparked significant media attention.

For now, the day’s outcome was clear: Lively secured the win, Baldoni’s extension request was denied, and Swift is officially out of the deposition hot seat.
