EXCLUSIVE: Viola Davis (Fences, The Woman King) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, Aquaman) are set to star and produce a reimagining of the 1987 MGM feature film House of Games, currently in development at Amazon MGM Studios. The actors will produce through their respective production companies, with Davis leading Juvee Productions and Abdul-Mateen II heading House Eleven10.

About the Original Film

David Mamet penned the original film, which also marked his directorial debut. The story revolves around psychiatrist Margaret Ford (Lindsay Crouse), who becomes entangled in the gambling world while assisting her patient, Mike Mancuso (Joe Mantegna), in managing his anxiety.

Viola Davis: A Champion for Change

In 2017, Davis was recognized by Time 100 as one of the world’s most influential individuals and received the Public Counsel’s William O Douglas Award in 2022 for her dedication to social justice. She was honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2025 Golden Globes and will be inducted into the Television Academy Hall of Fame this summer. Davis actively collaborates with various initiatives aimed at eradicating childhood hunger in the U.S. and recently launched the Davis-Tennon Foundation. A Juilliard School graduate, she holds an Honorary Doctorate from the institution and another from Rhode Island College.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II: Rising Star

Abdul-Mateen II will next appear in the title role of Marvel’s Wonder Man, set to premiere on Disney+ in December, followed by his role as executive producer and lead in Netflix’s thriller series Man on Fire, based on A.J. Quinnell’s novels. Upcoming projects include By Any Means, By All, Emergency Contact, The Scent of Burnt Flowers, and I Helped Destroy People. An Emmy award-winner for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for his performance in HBO’s Watchmen, Abdul-Mateen II has gained acclaim for his roles in The Trial of the Chicago 7 and First Match.
