‘Welcome to Wrexham’ Renewed for Season 5 and Its Spinoff Gets a Title

FX Renews Welcome to Wrexham for Season 5 and Announces New Spinoff Necaxa in Partnership with Disney+ Latin America

FX has officially renewed the hit documentary series Welcome to Wrexham for a fifth season, alongside unveiling details about a new spinoff series, Necaxa (formerly Bienvenidos a Necaxa), in collaboration with Disney+ Latin America.

The renewal for Welcome to Wrexham, which follows the Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney since 2020, was an easy decision. Season five will document the club’s debut in the EFL Championship after an extraordinary third consecutive promotion. The current fourth season airs new episodes Thursdays at 9 p.m. on FX, with streaming available the following day on Hulu.

Introducing Necaxa — A New Bilingual Docuseries

Joining Reynolds and McElhenney as a partner on Necaxa is actress and producer Eva Longoria. This series will focus on a pivotal and turbulent chapter for the historic Mexican football club, Club Necaxa, based in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

FX describes Necaxa as:

“A gripping bilingual docuseries chronicling a turbulent, transformational era marked by staff shake-ups, career-defining injuries, and the relentless grit of a football team determined to defy expectations and deliver hope to its city of Aguascalientes.”

Once a powerhouse in Mexican football, Club Necaxa has weathered decades of instability, including relocations and relegation battles. Despite this, a passionate core of devoted fans continues to hold on to the dream of seeing the “Rayos” rise again.

With exclusive behind-the-scenes access, the series follows the emotional journeys of players, staff, diehard fans, and skeptics alike — bringing viewers into training pitches, locker rooms, and the heart of a community united by faith, resilience, and hope.

Nick Grad, President of FX Entertainment, said:

“Rob and Ryan helped Wrexham AFC become one of the greatest sports stories of our time, and what has happened in Wrexham, Wales is truly magical. Now, with Eva Longoria, they’re teaming up to support the dreams and aspirations of Necaxa fans and the Aguascalientes community.”

Production Details

Welcome to Wrexham is executive produced by McElhenney, Reynolds, and a team including Josh Drisko, Bryan Rowland, Jeff Luini, and others. The show is produced through More Better Productions, Maximum Effort, 3 Arts Entertainment, and Boardwalk Pictures.

Necaxa shares some executive producers with Welcome to Wrexham — McElhenney, Reynolds, Nick Frenkel, and George Dewey — with additional producers including Eva Longoria, Cris Abrego, Rachelle Mendez, Jackie Cohn, Alex Fumero, and Diana E. Gonzales. Longoria’s Hyphenate Media Group takes the production helm alongside existing partners.

FX states:

“Will Club Necaxa make it, or will they lose another season and the hearts of Aguascalientes once and for all?”
