Netflix’s hit series Wednesday is back for Season 2, promising the return of familiar faces, new threats, and thrilling mysteries at Nevermore Academy.

Since its debut in November 2022, Wednesday quickly became Netflix’s most-watched English-language series. Inspired by the iconic character Wednesday Addams, created by Charles Addams, the show was developed by creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, with Jenna Ortega starring as the unforgettable lead.

Season 2 Synopsis

Wednesday Addams returns to the gothic halls of Nevermore Academy, where she faces fresh foes and woes. Navigating family, friends, and old adversaries, Wednesday is drawn into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery, armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm.

Returning Cast

Jenna Ortega returns as Wednesday, joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley). Other returning stars include Joonas Suotamo (Lurch), Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), and Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester), among others.

Ortega shared her excitement about reprising Wednesday, highlighting the character’s sharp intelligence and enduring appeal.

New Cast Members

Season 2 introduces several new characters, including Steve Buscemi (Principal Barry Dort), Christopher Lloyd (Professor Orloff), Joanna Lumley (Grandmama Hester Frump), Thandiwe Newton (Dr. Rachael Fairburn), and the highly anticipated Lady Gaga as Rosaline Rotwood, a legendary Nevermore teacher.

Direction and Writing

Executive producer Tim Burton returns to direct four episodes, including the season premiere and finale. Directors Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson each helm two episodes.

Burton emphasizes grounding the Addams family mythology in real emotions and family issues, enriching the storytelling this season.

The writing team includes Gough, Millar, and new writers such as Matt Lambert and Valentina Garza.

Filming Locations

Season 2 shifted production from Romania to Ireland, with Charleville Castle standing in for Nevermore Academy. Additional filming took place in Kilternan, Clonliffe, and Roundwood.

Release Date and Emmy Contention

Wednesday Season 2 will be released in two parts: the first four episodes premiere on August 6, 2025, and the final four episodes follow on September 25, 2025.

The show is poised for Emmy contention in 2026 after Season 1 garnered 12 nominations and won four Emmys, including for costumes, production design, and makeup.
