Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein: First Look at Jacob Elordi’s Creature Unveiled

The creature has emerged from the shadows in Guillermo del Toro‘s highly anticipated adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic gothic horror novel, Frankenstein. After a brief teaser, first-look photos have been released by Netflix and Vanity Fair, revealing Jacob Elordi‘s portrayal of the monster, distinct from the iconic Boris Karloff version of 1931.

The images also showcase the film’s star-studded cast including Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, and Christoph Waltz, alongside scenes featuring del Toro directing. This adaptation is expected to be a strong contender during the upcoming Oscar season.

Guillermo del Toro has long expressed his passion for the project, citing Mary Shelley’s novel—written when she was just 19—as his favorite book. Known for his love of monsters, especially those from the Universal horror canon, del Toro previously gained acclaim with The Shape of Water, which won him the 2019 BAFTA Award for Best Director.

Del Toro honors Shelley’s legacy, emphasizing how she gave “voice to the voiceless” and shaped his creative vision. He describes his long-standing obsession with the story, calling it “an autobiography” that fuses with his soul.

The film features Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi as the creature, and Mia Goth as Elizabeth, Frankenstein’s fiancée. The supporting cast includes Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, as well as Charles Dance, David Bradley, and Ralph Ineson.

Elordi shared that playing the creature required a full physical, spiritual, and mental rebuild, describing the role as unlike anything he has done before.

A two-minute teaser released in May offers a glimpse of the dark atmosphere, with Isaac narrating Victor Frankenstein’s descent into creating life and death, culminating in a scene where the creature confronts vigilantes.

The film is scheduled for a limited theatrical release in November for Oscar qualification, followed by streaming on Netflix later that month.
