MasterChef: Dynamic Duos Season 15 – Episode Recap: “The Audition Battles Continue” (May 28, 2025)

This summer, MasterChef on Fox returns for its 15th season with an exciting new twist: Dynamic Duos. For the first time, pairs of home cooks — from siblings and best friends to couples and even divorcees — team up and face some of the toughest cooking challenges ever seen on the show.

In the May 28 episode, titled “The Audition Battles Continue,” ten pairs competed for the coveted white aprons, moving one step closer to the MasterChef trophy and the grand prize of $250,000.

Battle 1: Darce & Courtney vs. Kayla & Ryan Kate

  • Darce and Courtney, animal ER nurses, presented a Vegan Lomo Saltado with lion’s mane mushrooms. Judges praised its rustic charm but wanted a bit more seasoning.

  • Kayla and Ryan Kate, former MasterChef Junior contestants, served Pan-Seared Sea Bass with lemon garlic spinach and beurre blanc. The dish was visually stunning with good technique, though some criticized the soggy tomatoes.
    Winners: Kayla and Ryan Kate

Battle 2: Javi & Luis vs. Kevin & Trey

  • Javi and Luis, firefighters, prepared a Chipotle Turkey Burger with Bacon Jam. Gordon Ramsay called it the best turkey burger he’s ever had, but the Caesar salad plating fell flat.

  • Kevin and Trey, best friends, served an elegant Filet Mignon with Mashed Potatoes and Brandy Peppercorn Sauce. Judges loved the steak’s cook and seasoning, though the sauce was slightly over-reduced.
    Winners: Kevin and Trey

Battle 3: Milah & Lisa vs. Tonna & Cait

Battle 4: Rachel & Julio vs. Spencer & McKenna

  • Rachel and Julio, married couple, delivered Gambas Al Ajillo with creamy polenta and Spanish chorizo. The gambas were praised, but the polenta was considered too rich.

  • Spencer and McKenna, also married, served fried chicken with southern green beans and herb gravy. The chicken’s juiciness was applauded, but the gravy lacked flavor.
    Winners: Rachel and Julio

Battle 5: Ricky & Ashley vs. Adam & Joel

  • Ricky and Ashley, siblings, cooked Seafood Fra Diavolo with tagliatelle and anchovy breadcrumbs. The sauce and seafood were great despite a messy plating.

  • Adam and Joel, brothers, made stuffed chicken thighs with mushroom stuffing and fried okra. Judges loved the ambition but had mixed feelings about the okra’s texture.
    Winners: Ricky and Ashley
