Outlander: Blood of My Blood — Everything to Know About the Exciting New Prequel Series

Outlander may be ending with its eighth season, but the new spin-off series Outlander: Blood of My Blood aims to keep fans’ heart rates soaring for years to come.
The highly anticipated romance prequel was conceived in 2022, officially ordered by Starz in 2023, filmed in 2024, and is set for release in 2025. The plot of Outlander: Blood of My Blood follows the parents of Outlander’s two main lovebirds, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Beauchamp (Caitríona Balfe). The television franchise is based on Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander book series, which she wrote over the span of 30 years (1991 to 2021).

WHO’S IN THE CAST?
Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy portray Jamie Fraser’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, in 18th-century Scotland. Meanwhile, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine take on the roles of Claire Beauchamp’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp, during the timeframe of World War I.
Other main cast members include Tony Curran as Lord Lovat (Jamie’s grandfather), Séamus McLean Ross as Colum MacKenzie, Sam Retford as Dougal MacKenzie, Rory Alexander as Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, and Conor MacNeill as Ned Gowan.
Guest stars include the late Brian McCardie as Isaac Grant, Jhon Lumsden as Malcolm Grant, Sara Vickers as Davina Porter, Peter Mullan as Red Jacob MacKenzie, and others.
WHAT IS THE PREMIERE DATE?
Mark your calendars for August 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, when the first of 10 episodes of Outlander: Blood of My Blood will debut on Starz. All episodes will be available to stream every Friday on the Starz app and on-demand platforms. The star-studded red carpet premiere will take place in Los Angeles on July 28.

According to Starz: After 11 years of epic romance on the groundbreaking series Outlander, the timeless tale continues — or rather begins — on the eve of an earlier Jacobite rebellion. The stand-alone prequel series features new cast, characters, and stories welcoming viewers unfamiliar with the Outlander universe, while providing origin stories of fan-favorite characters and offering new perspectives that will change what viewers think they know.
EPISODE TITLES
The series premiere, titled “Providence,” is written by showrunner Matthew B. Roberts. Other episodes include “S.W.A.K. (Sealed with a Kiss),” “School of the Moon,” “A Soldier’s Heart,” “Neefire,” “Birthright,” “Luceo Non Uro,” “A Virtuous Woman,” “Braemar,” and “Something Borrowed,” with contributions from Diana Gabaldon and other writers.

FRANCHISE EMMY HISTORY
Despite critical acclaim, the original Outlander has faced challenges at the Emmy Awards, with only four nominations to date: Best Score (2015), Best Costumes (2016 and 2018), and Best Production Design. Season 7, Part 2 of Outlander is eligible at the 2025 Emmys, and Season 1 of Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be eligible at the 2026 Emmys.
