Rosalind Eleazar on Louisa Guy’s Grief in Slow Horses Season 4

In the Emmy-nominated Apple TV+ spy drama Slow Horses, actress Rosalind Eleazar delivers a powerful yet understated performance as Louisa Guy, one of MI5’s most enigmatic outcasts. Beneath her composed demeanor lies a woman grappling with unresolved grief, particularly following the death of teammate and former lover Min Harper in Season 2.

“Louisa is incredibly guarded. Her exterior appears calm and grounded, but that’s really just a defense mechanism,” Eleazar explains in an interview with Gold Derby. “She’s a loner. She’s shut herself off from love and happiness.”

Through carefully measured glances and subtle expressions, Eleazar lets viewers feel the emotional weight Louisa carries. “She’s really not OK,” she says. “And I love those moments when you get a glimpse of that.”

A Different Kind of Spy Series

Based on the bestselling novels by Mick Herron and adapted by showrunner Will Smith (Veep), Slow Horses follows a ragtag group of British intelligence agents relegated to Slough House, a dead-end department for spies who’ve made career-ending mistakes. Known as “slow horses,” they’re expected to spend their days in bureaucratic exile — unless a mission demands otherwise.

While Gary Oldman leads the cast as the brutally honest and often intoxicated boss Jackson Lamb, Eleazar’s Louisa Guy provides a more internal counterweight, portraying vulnerability beneath resilience.

Other stars include Jack Lowden, Kristin Scott Thomas, Jonathan Pryce, Christopher Chung, and newcomers in Season 4 like Tom Brooke, Ruth Bradley, James Callis, and Hugo Weaving as mercenary Frank Harkness.

Character Evolution in a Brash, Unconventional World

What makes Slow Horses stand out among spy dramas is its balance of dark humor, deeply flawed characters, and gritty emotional realism. “The show doesn’t shy away from making its characters unlikeable,” Eleazar says. “They’re misfits, but that’s what makes them real.”

Over four seasons — with a fifth premiering September 24 — the show has cultivated a loyal fanbase, thanks in part to its collaborative atmosphere on set. “It’s the most collaborative project I’ve ever worked on,” Eleazar shares. “No egos, just creativity.”

The result is a unique narrative tone, with rapid plot twists, biting dialogue, and moments of raw emotion that elevate the spy genre to something more personal and character-driven.

Where to Watch Slow Horses Season 4

All episodes of Slow Horses Season 4 are now streaming on Apple TV+. With six episodes per season, the show is both bingeable and rich in detail, rewarding viewers who pay attention to the emotional arcs beneath the surface.

As Eleazar notes, “It’s been a joy to peel back Louisa’s layers across seasons. She’s tough, yes — but she’s also still healing.”
