Sony FX2: The New AI-Powered Hybrid Cinema Camera for Creators on the Go

Sony has officially launched the Sony FX2, expanding its Cinema Line with a versatile hybrid camera designed for filmmakers, photographers, and content creators alike.

Equipped with a powerful 33MP full-frame sensor and advanced AI capabilities, the Sony FX2 bridges the gap between high-quality video and still photography in a compact, travel-friendly body. Theresa Alesso, President of Imaging Products and Solutions Americas at Sony, highlights, “The FX2 was created based on user feedback, engineered to support filmmaking with unique features including a new eyepiece and versatile production enhancements. It continues the Cinema Line’s mission to preserve authentic emotion in every shot.”

Ideal for on-the-go creators, the FX2 features an S-Log3 photo mode with optional LUT application and a bright 3.68 million-dot OLED viewfinder that tilts from 0 to 90°, enhancing usability in diverse shooting situations.

Cutting-Edge AI Features

The Sony FX2 stands out with its dedicated AI processing unit that significantly improves autofocus, active image stabilization, and real-time subject recognition. By analyzing colors, patterns, and depth, it maintains sharp focus on people, animals, and vehicles. Eye recognition for humans and animals is enhanced by 30% compared to Sony’s FX3 and FX30 models, making the FX2 perfect for fast-paced shooting scenarios like wildlife and sports.

This AI also powers auto framing, automatically adjusting composition to keep subjects centered in the frame.

Professional 4K Video Recording

Designed for ultimate flexibility, the FX2 can shoot DCI 4K video internally at up to 60 fps with 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling, or output 16-bit raw video via HDMI. It supports various recording formats including XAVC S, S-I, and HS, and codecs such as Long GOP, All-Intra, H.264, and H.265.

Users can customize color grading using up to 16 user-imported LUTs or choose S-Cinetone modes to match other Sony cinema cameras like VENICE and FX6. Additional features include variable frame rates for time-lapses and slow-motion and in-camera de-squeezing of 1.3x and 2.0x anamorphic footage.
