“Platonic” Season 2: Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne Return for Another Round of Feel-Good Chaos

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne reunite in Season 2 of Apple TV+’s hit comedy Platonic — a series that blends hilarious friendship dynamics, mid-life crises, and relatable adult drama. Originally conceived as a limited series, Platonic makes a surprising and satisfying comeback, proving that genuine platonic chemistry can be just as compelling as romance.

The show picks up after Will (Rogen) and Sylvia (Byrne) reconnected in Season 1, rekindling their friendship after years apart. Now in Season 2, the two are navigating new life stages: Will is an executive at the rebranded gastropub chain J-6 and engaged to his boss Jenna (Rachel Rosenbloom), while Sylvia is struggling to grow her party-planning business and support her husband Charlie (Luke MacFarlane), who’s considering a legal career switch to become the next Scott Turow.

No Romance, Just Complicated Friendship

What sets Platonic apart from other comedies is its commitment to exploring true friendship between a man and a woman. There’s no romantic tension, no “will-they-won’t-they” trope — just two flawed people leaning on each other in increasingly absurd situations.

Rogen and Byrne, known for Neighbors (2014) and Neighbors 2 (2016), have an effortless comedic rhythm, showcasing their range beyond raunchy marital humor.

Standout Supporting Cast and Writing

Season 2’s supporting characters shine:

Sharp Pop Culture, Soft Touches

From Fatal Attraction to The Sopranos, the series drops pop culture references without overdoing it. Attention to authentic moments — like a child hugging their mom before school or Will’s deliberately dorky wardrobe — gives Platonic its warm, low-stakes charm.

The series stays within 24–40 minutes per episode, maintaining breezy pacing ideal for late summer binge-watching. While it’s light on plot twists, it’s rich in character and emotional resonance.
