Joshua Jackson’s Emotional Custody Battle Over Daughter Juno with Jodie Turner-Smith

Joshua Jackson is taking legal action to ensure continued involvement in the life of his 5-year-old daughter, Juno, amid a contentious custody dispute with ex-wife Jodie Turner-Smith. The Dawson’s Creek star recently submitted a heartfelt letter to the courts as part of an ongoing effort to contest major decisions made by Turner-Smith without his consent — including plans to relocate their daughter’s school and extended international travel.

The letter, dated May 26, serves as part of Jackson’s motion to prevent Jodie from unilaterally changing Juno’s school. He emphasizes his concern about the proposed new school’s distance from his temporary home following the loss of his L.A. residence in a wildfire earlier this year. He advocates for keeping Juno enrolled in her current school to maintain stability and minimize commuting stress.

A significant portion of the letter focuses on Jodie’s plan to bring Juno to London for five weeks while she films a project there. Jackson expressed concern about Juno being separated from either parent for such an extended period.

“At this age, 4 weeks is an eternity to her,” Jackson wrote, underscoring the emotional and developmental impact of prolonged separation from a parent.

He added, “Thankfully this summer I have the ability to travel, thereby reducing the need for Juno to incur additional travel while still being able to provide her with frequent, continuing and meaningful contact with both parents.”

Jackson also raised objections to another proposed trip — a visit to Morocco — citing the need for more detailed information about safety, accommodations, and scheduling before approving international travel with their daughter.

The letter reveals a sincere attempt by Jackson to maintain respectful dialogue with Turner-Smith while advocating for co-parenting grounded in balance and cooperation. He stated:

“I think that maximizing that frequent, continuing and meaningful contact should be our guiding light [through] all of these conversations… Juno needs both of us. Ideally, exactly equally.”

He also responded to research shared by Turner-Smith about the importance of the mother-daughter relationship, particularly for biracial children. Jackson acknowledged his limitations in addressing certain aspects of Juno’s identity but reaffirmed the critical value of the father-daughter bond.

“I hope you agree that the father/daughter relationship is also of huge importance,” he wrote.

Jackson and Turner-Smith married in 2019 and welcomed Juno in April 2020. Their marriage ended in 2023, with the divorce finalized just last month. While the legal terms regarding custody and support have been formally agreed upon, this recent development highlights ongoing disagreements regarding co-parenting decisions.

This high-profile case continues to unfold, offering a deeper glimpse into the emotional and logistical challenges of celebrity co-parenting after divorce.
