Jurassic World Rebirth Dominates July 4 Box Office With $141.2M in 5 Days

SATURDAY AM UPDATE: Neither barbecues, swimming pools, nor fireworks could keep audiences away as Universal and Amblin’s Jurassic World Rebirth stomped into theaters with a massive $26.3M Friday, up 4% from Thursday. That marks the film’s second-highest grossing day after its $30.5M opening — which began at 12:01 AM.

The film’s 5-day domestic total is now $141.2M, with a Friday-Sunday haul of $85.4M. Globally, the movie has opened to a staggering $312.5M across 82 markets, surpassing Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’s debut of $298.9M. The franchise leader remains the original Jurassic World with a record-breaking $525.5M global opening, the 6th highest worldwide of all time.

Despite Independence Day distractions, Rebirth posted the best July 4th performance for a #1 movie post-COVID, overtaking Despicable Me 4 ($20.3M), Rise of Gru ($16M), Sound of Freedom ($14.2M), and F9 ($5.2M). Only Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2014 showed a similar +10% July 4th increase over Thursday.

Audience diagnostics show that the franchise is aging: only 36% of viewers were under 25, compared to 56% for Fallen Kingdom and 41% for Dominion. The 18-34 age group made up 51%, with the largest demographic being 25-34 at 29%. PostTrak scores reveal a 60% definite recommend, up from Dominion’s 57% — a key indicator of audience enthusiasm.

In terms of demographics, the breakdown is:

  • Caucasian: 45%

  • Latino/Hispanic: 26%

  • Black: 13%

  • Asian American: 9%

  • Male audience: 61%

Families made up 41% of the audience, with 32% attending with friends. Date nights were minimal at 7%, and couples at 21%.

Performance across regions is even, though strongest in the South and South Central, with AMC Disney Springs in Orlando being the top-grossing theater at $230K. While there were no IMAX showings, Premium Large Formats (PLFs) drove 29% of sales, and 3D accounted for 18%.

Rebirth matched Dominion with 58% same-day ticket sales, but outperformed in presales, with 30% booked in the last week, versus Dominion’s 14%.

Ticket purchase drivers included:

Sequel interest remains high, with 53% saying they would watch another film, and 33% open to the idea depending on the content.

In comparison, Apple Original Films and Warner Bros.F1 earned $6.9M Friday, projecting $24M-$25M for the weekend and a $108.9M total by Sunday.
