Disney Settles Lawsuit with Gina Carano, Hinting at Future Collaboration

Ahead of a September trial start, Disney and Gina Carano have officially ended their more than yearlong discrimination lawsuit over the actress’s 2021 firing from The Mandalorian due to political postings.

In a joint filing today in federal court, the former Star Wars star and the Bob Iger-led entertainment giant requested the Elon Musk-backed legal action be dismissed with prejudice. This essentially marks the case as closed, signaling a significant win for Carano.

While settlement details remain undisclosed—such as whether she will return to her role as Cara Dune or receive the millions in damages sought—it’s clear that Disney and Carano are back on good terms. A source close to Carano stated she is “happy with how things were dealt with.”

Earlier today, Carano hinted at the resolution with a cryptic online post: “… and the truth shall set you free.”

On Disney’s side, the statement carried a notably more conciliatory tone:

“The Walt Disney Company and Lucasfilm are pleased to announce that we have reached an agreement with Gina Carano to resolve the issues in her pending lawsuit… We look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future.”

This represents a stark contrast from 2021, when Lucasfilm publicly stated that Carano’s social media posts—including those that “trivialized the Holocaust”—were “abhorrent and unacceptable,” leading to her removal from the franchise.

Carano’s wrongful termination suit, filed in February 2024, claimed she was dismissed for refusing to back down from her conservative political views, while other cast members expressed progressive opinions without repercussions.

Since her firing, Carano has leaned into conservative media projects, collaborating with The Daily Wire and Breitbart News, and winning multiple legal rounds over the past 18 months with Musk’s financial backing.

The question now is whether Carano will rejoin the Star Wars universe in upcoming series or films, including the rumored Mandalorian movie set to film in California. While the Force may not dictate the future, the industry will be watching closely for her next move.
