Is Arden Cho’s June Returning in Netflix’s Live-Action Avatar: The Last Airbender?

According to Arden Cho, the future of bounty hunter June in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender remains uncertain, but she may still have a role in upcoming seasons. The first season of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender adapted season 1 of the original ATLA cartoon, Book One: Water. While the live-action version featured some major plot and structural changes, it introduced fan-favorite minor characters, including June, played by Teen Wolf alum Arden Cho, and her shirshu sniffer mount, Nyla.
Following the success of season 1, Netflix quickly renewed Avatar: The Last Airbender for seasons 2 and 3, allowing the series to complete Aang’s journey as the Avatar mastering all the elements and confronting Fire Lord Ozai. In the original cartoon, minor but important characters like June reappear at key moments. However, in an interview with ScreenRant about the animated fantasy musical KPop Demon Hunters, Cho revealed uncertainty about her character’s return.
Cho said, “I hope she’s back. We’re all trying to work that out. She’s one of my favorites. She’s so badass.” This hints at potential scheduling or creative challenges but leaves room for her return.
What This Means for Seasons 2 & 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender
June only appears again in the original cartoon’s final season, Sozin’s Comet. Before Aang faces Fire Lord Ozai, he disappears, and Zuko, Sokka, Katara, and Toph hire June and Nyla to find him. Although they don’t succeed, they assist in locating allies like Iroh before Aang’s ultimate battle.
Netflix scheduled seasons 2 and 3 to film back-to-back. Season 2 finished earlier this year, and production on season 3 began in May 2025. With Cho unsure of her return, June and Nyla may not feature in Netflix’s adaptation of Sozin’s Comet—though it’s not impossible.

Our Take on June in the Live-Action Avatar
June is one of the most neutral and complex characters in the story. She isn’t inherently good or evil—her loyalty lies with herself, Nyla, and money. This makes her adaptable to various plotlines. Since Team Avatar continues to travel while Aang learns the elements, June could return when asked to track Aang in the finale.
Cho’s portrayal captured June’s tenacity, strength, and morally ambiguous nature. Fans enjoyed her dynamic with Iroh, and a showdown between Nyla and Aang’s sky bison, Appa, would be exciting in live-action. However, we will have to wait and see if Arden Cho’s June returns in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender adaptation.
