Plot and Inspiration
Nolan’s The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer’s iconic epic poem from around the 8th century BCE. The film will chronicle the perilous journey of Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, as he attempts to return home following the Trojan War. This mythic action epic will showcase Odysseus’ encounters with legendary figures such as Polyphemus the Cyclops, the Sirens, Calypso, and the witch goddess Circe. Meanwhile, back on Ithaca, his wife Penelope ingeniously delays suitors by unraveling a wedding tapestry every night, hoping for her husband’s return.
