Colleen Hoover’s Thriller Verity Set for October 2025 Theatrical Release with Star-Studded Cast

Colleen Hoover’s popular thriller Verity is gearing up for its big-screen debut, following the upcoming adaptation of her novel Regretting You. After the success of It Ends With Us, which starred Blake Lively and was directed by Justin Baldoni, expectations are high for Hoover’s latest adaptation.


When Will Verity Hit Theaters?

Originally scheduled for May 15, 2026, Verity’s release has been moved up to October 2, 2025, according to an exclusive report by Deadline.


Is Verity Currently in Production?

Yes. Photos from the set show Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett filming scenes in New York City, notably a key introductory sequence, captured in Pershing Square in March 2025.


Who’s in the Cast?

Deadline revealed the main cast lineup:

  • Anne Hathaway stars as the titular character, Verity Crawford.

  • Josh Hartnett plays Jeremy Crawford, Verity’s husband.

  • Dakota Johnson portrays Lowen Ashleigh, the struggling writer hired to complete Verity’s novels.

Johnson described her character as “basically the bad guy” and praised the story’s twists and suspense, emphasizing its “juicy” thriller elements.

Additional cast members include Ismael Cruz Cordóva (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Brady Wagner (Merrily We Roll Along), Irina Dvorovenko (And Just Like That…), K.K. Moggie (The Good Wife), and Michael Abbott Jr. (The Drama).


Who’s Behind the Camera?

Michael Showalter, known for directing The Idea of You starring Hathaway, returns as director. The screenplay is penned by Nick Antosca, with earlier drafts by Hillary Seitz, Angela LaManna, Will Honley, and April Maguire.

Producers include Antosca and Alex Hedlund for Eat the Cat, Showalter and Jordana Mollick for Semi-Formal Productions, Hathaway for Somewhere Pictures, and Hoover with Shiny Penny and Stacey Sher for Heartbones Entertainment.


What’s the Plot of Verity?

The story follows Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer hired by Jeremy Crawford to finish the bestselling thriller series written by his wife, Verity, who is incapacitated after a mysterious accident. While staying at the Crawfords’ lavish estate, Lowen discovers an unfinished manuscript that hints at dark family secrets and possible sinister truths behind Verity’s accident.

As Lowen becomes entangled with Jeremy and their son Crew, she faces the challenge of deciphering whether Verity’s chilling writings are fiction or a disturbing reality.

Following the theatrical success of It Ends With Us, Regretting You is slated for an October 2025 release by Paramount. Additionally, Universal is working on adapting Hoover’s Reminders of Him, with casting and production underway.
