Glenn Close and Billy Porter Join Star-Studded Cast of “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping”

Eight-time Oscar nominee Glenn Close and Emmy-winning star Billy Porter are the latest high-profile additions to the cast of Lionsgate’s upcoming blockbuster The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping — the much-anticipated prequel in Suzanne Collins’ dystopian universe.
New Roles in the Capitol
Close is set to portray Drusilla Sickle, the ruthless escort of District 12’s tributes. Porter will take on the role of Magno Stift, her estranged husband and the district’s dispassionate designer. The two characters promise a volatile dynamic in a politically charged narrative.
They join a growing cast of talent, including Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor, Ben Wang, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, and Kieran Culkin, under the direction of Francis Lawrence (Catching Fire, Mockingjay).
Producer Praise
Longtime franchise producer Nina Jacobson celebrated the casting:

“Glenn Close is a dream Drusilla. She brings intellect and imagination to every role, and I think she and Francis will have a ball bringing her to life.”
On Porter, she added:
“Billy is one of those rare performers who can dazzle and devastate equally. His power and humanity made a lasting impression on me during Pose. Announcing Glenn and Billy together feels like winning the lottery.”
A Prequel With Massive Momentum
Sunrise on the Reaping is set 24 years before Katniss Everdeen’s story, chronicling the morning of the Fiftieth Hunger Games — better known as the Second Quarter Quell. The book, released on March 18, 2025, has already shattered sales records with 1.5 million copies sold in its first week across multiple countries, including the U.S., U.K., and Australia.
This marks the sixth film in the Hunger Games cinematic universe, which has already grossed over $3.3 billion worldwide.
