Sony a1 II Firmware Update v3.00: Major New Features Every Pro Photographer Should Know

The long-awaited firmware update v3.00 for the Sony a1 II has officially arrived, and it’s packed with pro-level enhancements that elevate the camera’s already-impressive capabilities. While the a1 II was already known for its versatility, high-resolution imaging, fast performance, and professional build, this update addresses several lingering gaps and introduces powerful new tools for photographers and videographers alike.

Key Features of Sony a1 II Firmware Update v3.00

Sony’s latest firmware brings some serious improvements, especially for professionals working with dual memory cards, FTP workflows, and video production. Here’s a breakdown of the most important new features:

  • Simultaneous Deletion & Rating: Now you can delete and rate images on both Memory Card Slot 1 and Slot 2, streamlining workflows for dual-card shooters.

  • OK/NG/KEEP Flags for Video: Add visual markers to your video clips, either during or after recording, making post-production organization faster and more intuitive.

  • Flexible Control Options: Users can now choose whether to change Shooting Mode, Drive Mode, and Focus Mode via dial or menu, offering more customization.

  • Updated Shooting Info Layout: The camera now adapts the display layout of shooting information depending on horizontal or vertical orientation, improving visibility.

  • Improved Playback Interface: Folder names and file names are now viewable during playback, offering more context on-set or during reviews.

FTP and Remote Workflow Enhancements

With professional photographers in mind, Sony added advanced FTP features, including:

  • Ability to cancel scheduled FTP transfers for selected images.

  • Support for automatic FTP transfers of protected stills and videos.

  • Auto-protection of transferred images via FTP Upload Presets.

⚠️ Note: These features require Transfer & Tagging settings v2.3.0 (Android) or v2.3.1 (iOS), and may not be available in all regions.

Monitor & Control App Integration

This update adds compatibility with several advanced features in the Monitor & Control mobile app, such as:

  • Focus Map Display

  • IRIS Operation Bar Display

Ensure you’re running the latest version of the app (v2.3.0 or later) for full support.

Licensing-Based Features Coming Soon

Some features require a paid license under Sony’s Volume Photography License and Authenticity Solution programs:

  • Scan and Tag, Photo Cropping, and Volume Photography Commands

  • Accurate Shooting Date/Time Display based on the camera’s internal clock, rather than server time

📌 These services and licenses are expected to be available after August 2025, with regional limitations.

Security & Stability Updates

  • WPA and WEP Wi-Fi protocols are no longer supported, reinforcing security via WPA2 or WPA3.

  • Operational stability of the camera has also been improved across various functions.

If you’re a current Sony a1 II user, this firmware update is a must-have. You can download the update and follow the installation guide directly from Sony’s official website.
