Fear Street: Prom Queen Stars Suzanna Son & David Iacono Talk Franchise’s Future
The Netflix horror franchise Fear Street returns with Prom Queen, bringing back the blood-soaked drama of Shadyside. In an exclusive interview, ComingSoon‘s Senior Editor Brandon Schreur sat down with stars Suzanna Son and David Iacono to talk about their roles, the movie’s twists, and whether the story could continue.
Prom Night Turns Deadly in Shadyside
According to the official synopsis, Prom Queen picks up during prom season at Shadyside High. A new contender shakes up the school’s elite group of girls, but soon classmates begin disappearing, leading to a terrifying prom night for the class of 1988.
Now streaming on Netflix, the film blends slasher horror with high school drama, continuing the legacy of the Fear Street trilogy.
Suzanna Son Reflects on Her Shocking Opening Scene
One standout moment early in the film sees Suzanna Son’s character pretending to sever her own hand. “That was my first day on set, my first time screaming,” Son said. “It’s really beautiful and I’ll never forget it.” She added that filming multiple takes of the fake vomiting might have been even more intense than the gore.
David Iacono on Playing the Complex Tyler
David Iacono plays Tyler, a character who keeps viewers guessing throughout the movie. “At first, I thought he was one-note,” Iacono admitted. “But then our director, Matt, approached him with empathy. That made me excited to explore Tyler’s layers.”
Tyler comes across as a jock, a suspect, and later, a surprisingly sensitive young man. “He’s like a product of this insane town,” Iacono explained. “I liked how malleable he is depending on who he’s around.”
On-Screen Friendship with Natural Chemistry
Suzanna Son also spoke about her character’s friendship with Linda, played by India Fowler. “We met on the car ride to set,” she shared. “The vibe was instantly warm and fun. We became good friends right away, maybe too fast—we had to tone it down a little!”
Is There More Fear Street to Come?
When asked if they’d return for another Fear Street movie, both actors expressed enthusiasm — even as the film stands alone in its storytelling.
“I love that this movie is just a stand-alone thing,” Son said. “But it could have a future, for sure.”
Iacono agreed, adding, “It would be so much fun. It’s a beautiful, small story — but I’d be down.”
Fear Street: Prom Queen is now available to stream on Netflix.
